What is Ketamine and How Is It Used in Louisville KY?

Mental Health Services Louisville KY Ketamine Treatment

Ketamine is a fast-acting medication with various intriguing effects on mood, suicidal thinking, anxiety, and chronic pain, although it was not originally created to treat those conditions. Ketamine is what’s known as a “dissociative anesthetic.” That means it produces feelings of detachment from the environment and self, and it can help us to reach a controlled state of muscle relaxation.

Ketamine is known to have a fast-acting and long-lasting antidepressant effect, which is why it is being used to help individuals suffering from treatment-resistant depression, anxiety, and other conditions. Our physicians at Reclaim Wellness Group administer ketamine intravenously.

Most clinics providing ketamine are set up to maximize quantity over quality care. This is evidenced by rotating patients across several beds quickly, not offering the assistance of a therapist or wellness coach, and using forms of ketamine (e.g., nasal form) that aren’t as effective as ketamine administered intravenously (IV). Reclaim Wellness Group was set up to maximize healing, comfort, and safety. We are a small clinic with no more than 3 rooms available at a time. Patients can expect privacy, warmth, and a high-quality experience. We provide actual ketamine assisted psychotherapy, so each patient is always accompanied by a staff member every step of the way. Each room features leather recliners, soothing artwork, top-shelf aromas and essential oils, and more. Please contact us if you’re interested in ketamine services at Reclaim Wellness Group.

Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy for Treatment-Resistant Mental Illnesses

Mental Health Services Louisville KY Ketamine For Mood

You can maximize the healing benefits of ketamine by combining infusions with the support and guidance of a therapist or wellness coach. This service is called ketamine assisted psychotherapy. Research supports the use of ketamine for treatment-resistant depression, suicidal thoughts and urges, anxiety, PTSD, substance use disorders, and other mood conditions.

Reclaim Wellness Group is one of the only clinics in the region offering ketamine-assisted psychotherapy! When traditional methods of mental health treatments for various conditions meet their limitations, ketamine-assisted psychotherapy stands out as a beacon of hope for those grappling with profound emotional struggles.

Unlike conventional therapies, ketamine assisted psychotherapy (KAP) doesn’t follow a standard talk-based approach. Patients often describe their experience as a “guided journey” that is supported by a medical professional, coach, or therapist. Ketamine promotes neuroplasticity in the brain, the reorganization of neural networks and pathways. This is further enhanced through the use of psychotherapeutic intervention and support while a person receives an infusion. KAP has been shown to help patients break through barriers and defenses that traditional therapies often struggle to penetrate. The guided experience allows individuals to confront distressing emotions, fears, and traumatic memories, fostering a sense of acceptance, self-compassion, and healing. Ketamine Treatment for Chronic Pain

Mental Health Services Louisville KY Ketamine For Pain

Did you know that ketamine reduces signals in the brain associated with pain and inflammation? Reclaim your physical well-being using low-dose ketamine infusions for chronic pain at Reclaim Wellness Group. Ketamine allows for chronic pain sufferers to reach a controlled state of muscle relaxation that can have lasting effects. Additionally, it is a safer alternative for individuals who have struggled with opioid addiction.

Ketamine has been used to manage pain in several conditions to include–but not limited to–arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic migraines, back pain, neuropathic pain, pelvic pain, complex regional pain syndrome, and chronic fatigue syndrome.

While infusions for mental health typically last 45-60 minutes, ketamine infusions for chronic pain may last between 2 and 4 hours, depending on the physician’s recommendation. Pain infusions are administered intravenously and at a lower dose compared to infusions for mental health. Patients may request support from a wellness coach or therapist for part of their pain infusion. Although ketamine is a “dissociative anesthetic,” it is uncommon for patients to experience dissociation or feelings of detachment during an infusion for chronic pain. Patients may bring personal electronic devices for music and entertainment for pain infusions (not for ketamine services for mental health). Please contact us if you’re interested in ketamine for chronic pain at Reclaim Wellness Group.
