Bio

Dr. Street Russell (known by his patients as "Dr. Street") is a licensed psychologist and co-Clinical Director of Reclaim Clinic for OCD & Mental Health. Dr. Street specializes in the treatment of anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and OCD-related disorders (OCRDs) such as excoriation (skin-picking) and trichotillomania (hair-pulling) in children, adolescents, and adults.

To say that Dr. Street is passionate about anxiety and OCD treatment would sound like an outrageous understatement. Dr. Street has been known to tell his patients that he has dedicated his entire professional career to understanding and treating anxiety and OCD. He offers a commitment to each one that he will teach them all that he knows about anxiety and OCD so that they are equipped with the tools, skills, and knowledge they will need to experience long-term recovery. Dr. Street has been described by patients as compassionate, genuine, knowledgeable, and as a person who does not take themselves too seriously.

On average, it takes 14-17 years before a person is properly diagnosed with OCD or an OCRD. This is largely due to a) the media's portrayal of what it means to have OCD, b) people with OCD are secretive about what's troubling them, and c) a lack of recognition of OCD symptoms by mental health providers, counselors, and physicians who may not understand how to distinguish OCD symptoms from other conditions (i.e., generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorders, etc.). Dr. Street is committed to weakening the stigma of anxiety-related disorders. He is a regular speaker at professional conferences, hospitals, and state psychological associations training medical professionals on the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of OCD and OCRDs. Additionally, he provides clinical supervision to clinicians working toward full licensure and consultation to independently-licensed therapists who may be working with patients who have OCD, but lack the training and expertise to treat those patients effectively.

Dr. Street is a regular contributor to research studies furthering what mental health professionals are learning about OCD and anxiety disorders. These projects have included the application of exposure-based therapies in the treatment of eating disorders, broadening what is known about specific subtypes of OCD, and assisting in the creation of more accurate assessment tools for earlier detection of anxiety and OCD. Dr. Street has been a member of the clinical faculty at Spalding University's School of Professional Psychology, and serves on dissertation committees for doctoral candidates making new contributions to the growing body of behavioral health research. Dr. Street has several published articles in peer-reviewed journals, and is a co-author of a book that teaches and guides therapists on the assessment and treatment of individuals with sexual obsessions, one of the many subtypes of OCD. Dr. Street proudly served as the Associate Director of the Louisville OCD Clinic for 7 years before co-founding Reclaim Wellness Group.

Dr. Street has provided expert commentary on articles published by journalists at various media outlets on anxiety and OCD. He has been interviewed on several podcasts, as well as local radio programs raising the public's awareness of the true reality of what it's like to be an individual with OCD. You can follow Dr. Street's impressions on OCD and anxiety recovery on Instagram (@dr.street_treats_ocd). Dr. Street has been running one of the longest standing support groups in the area for individuals with OCD, perfectionism, eating disorders, and OCRDs. You may contact Dr. Street directly for information on joining his "Relapse Prevention Group" which meets once every third Wednesday of the month at 5:30-7:00 online.

Dr. Street earned his doctorate in professional psychology at Spalding University in Louisville, KY. He completed his pre-doctoral internship at a veteran's hospital in Topeka, KS. While Dr. Street is trained in the provision of exposure and response prevention therapy (ERP), a firstline treatment for OCD, he is also expert in the use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as an ERP enhancement. He has been a member of the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) for 7 years, and has attended several annual conferences during that time. He is licensed to practice psychology in Kentucky and Indiana. Additionally, he has a certificate that gives him authority to practice telepsychology in states belonging to the Psychology Interjurisdictional Compact (PSYPACT). For more information about PSYPACT, or to see if your state participates in PSYPACT, you may visit www.psypact.org.

Dr. Street values authenticity and genuineness in interactions with colleagues, professionals, and patients alike. While it is important to be treated by a clinician with expertise in your presenting condition using an evidence-based approach, Dr. Street believes that recovery most often occurs in patients who have a trusting, collaborative, and honest relationship with their provider; that begins with a provider who's willing to demonstrate their own willingness to be trusting, collaborative and honest.

Prior to the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Street had performed as a professional stand-up comedian for 10 years (no joke). He and his wife have 5 human children, not to be confused with the furry variety of dependents. In that area, Dr. Street's family has one dog ("Charlie") and two cats ("Mouse" and "Kasey"). Dr. Street is an avid fan of horror films, progressive metal music, and anything related to humor and comedy.
